Valparaiso University achieved several top 10 rankings within the Regional Universities (Midwest) category in the U.S. News and World Report 2027 Best Colleges Rankings, released today. Among these distinctions, the University was specifically recognized as the #2 Best Value institution and the #6 Best Regional university in the Midwest.
These high placements underscore the institution's commitment to delivering educational benefits for both its students and the broader communities that its graduates ultimately serve and lead. According to the latest available data, the University reports a 98.1% graduate outcomes rate. This rate indicates that students are either employed or enrolled in graduate school within nine months of earning their degrees. Eric Johnson, Ph.D., who serves as provost and executive vice president for academic affairs, stated that these recognitions are "affirming the enduring value of a Valpo education." He further noted that this education prepares students not only for their careers but also for a lifetime of learning and service to their communities.
A notable achievement came from the College of Nursing and Health Profession’s bachelor of science in nursing programs. These programs saw a significant rise in their national ranking, advancing from number 160 in 2026 to number 94 in the 2027 rankings. This particular recognition arrives at a critical time for the state of Indiana, which is currently facing substantial staffing challenges within its healthcare sector. Data from the Indiana Capital Chronicle indicates that 40% of nurses statewide are approaching retirement age. Furthermore, over half of all Indiana counties are experiencing primary care shortages. By consistently producing future healthcare leaders through its quality programs, Valparaiso University is actively contributing to meeting the specific needs of the local and regional community.
Beyond these highlights, other colleges within Valparaiso University also received national recognition for their quality and outcomes. Undergraduate programs offered through the College of Engineering are ranked within the top 30 nationally. Similarly, undergraduate programs in business sit within the top 200 at the national level.
