The Valparaiso University softball team now plays at Bill Steinbrecher Field, a venue located on Campus Drive W. that was formerly known as the Valpo Softball Complex. The renaming acknowledges the impact and legacy of Director of Athletics emeritus Dr. Bill Steinbrecher.

The university's softball team has utilized this site since 2003. Significant upgrades to the facility include the construction of the current grandstand for the 2011 season, which introduced aluminum seating along with chair-back seats in the central section behind home plate. These improvements also added ADA ramp entrances, a press box, and a concession stand. Further enhancements in 2017 saw the addition of a new scoreboard and revamped batting cages and bullpens positioned beyond the dugouts.

The Valparaiso Beacons softball team engages in a fall exhibition schedule, typically featuring four games during September and October. These games consist of doubleheaders held on Saturday afternoons, competing against regional and college opponents. This scheduling trend is observed at other collegiate campuses across the Midwest.

Historically, the team was a member of the Horizon League before transitioning to the Missouri Valley Conference prior to the 2018 season. The program achieved conference tournament championships in 2012, 2013, and 2016, and advanced to the second round of the NCAA tournament in 2012, where they faced Kentucky.

The atmosphere at Valpo softball games is described as laid-back, with the focus remaining on the action on the field. The stadium features a grass outfield, an all-dirt infield, and bullpens along each baseline. Spectators often include friends, close relatives, or classmates of the players, and it is common to hear coaches’ directions and guidance from the dugouts. Cheers from the players' dugouts are also a noticeable part of the game atmosphere.

Bill Steinbrecher Field can accommodate no more than 500 people. The grandstand provides elevated views of the field, though some specific spots may have sightline obstructions due to poles. The scoreboard, painted in school colors, is situated behind left field. The complex is bordered by tennis courts and Beacon Hall behind the outfield walls, with trees lining certain areas. Notably, team uniforms for fall ball do not include numbers on the back. Spectators are permitted to bring their own food and drinks to games, and there is no charge for admission. The stadium does not offer concessions or merchandise sales, particularly during fall games.

The venue itself is compact and easy to navigate, offering ramps for access and protective fencing to shield against foul balls. A parking lot is available behind the stadium, providing ample space for vehicles. During the fall season, additional Valparaiso University athletic events may be taking place at nearby facilities such as the Athletics-Recreation Center, Emory Bauer Field, or Brown Field.
