The Greater Valparaiso Chamber of Commerce has officially announced the retirement of its longtime President, Rex Richards. This significant transition will see Richards conclude his tenure after two decades of dedicated leadership within the Valparaiso organization, a period described by the Valpo Chamber as his longest with any chamber throughout his extensive career. Richards is set to move into the private sector following his departure. Succeeding him in the role of President will be Vanessa Lynch, with her term officially commencing on January 1, 2027.

To acknowledge Richards' substantial contributions and celebrate his twenty years at the helm, the Valparaiso Chamber of Commerce has confirmed plans for a farewell event. This celebration is scheduled for November 19, 2026, and will be held at Journeyman Distillery, a local venue situated in Valparaiso. The Chamber's public announcement, conveyed through a news release, detailed these arrangements, emphasizing the importance of recognizing Richards' long-standing commitment to the Valparaiso business community and the leadership he provided during his two decades in the role. This event will precede Vanessa Lynch’s formal assumption of the presidency by just over a month.

Richards' career in chamber leadership is notably extensive, encompassing a remarkable 54 years in total. These years were spent guiding chambers of commerce in various locations, both within the immediate Region and in other parts of the country. Born in downstate Anderson, Indiana, Richards embarked on his professional journey directly after completing his college education. His inaugural position as a chamber president was established in Jasper, Indiana. From that initial role, his career path led him to hold leadership positions with chambers in several distinct cities. Prior to his arrival in Valparaiso, he notably served as president for chambers located in Logansport, Michigan City, Kansas City, East Chicago, and Sarasota. The cumulative experience from these numerous roles culminated in his final and longest leadership post in Valparaiso. The news release from the Valpo Chamber underscored these details as part of the broader announcement regarding the upcoming leadership change, signaling the end of an era for the organization and the beginning of a new one under Vanessa Lynch's direction at the start of the upcoming year.
